7 Movie Themed Party Ideas for Groups and Families
Publié le
Seven ways to bring a favourite blockbuster to life for a birthday, family day out or a night with friends, from backyard cinemas to immersive VR.
A movie themed party works best when everyone already loves the story. Here are seven ways to bring your favourite blockbusters to life, from easy ideas at home to stepping inside the film’s world with your whole group.
Key Takeaways
Pick a movie your whole group already knows, so the party starts with everyone in on the story.
Mix easy ideas at home, like a backyard cinema or a costume premiere, with one big outing.
Try Zero Latency VR to step inside the story, with Jumanji VR arriving at every venue on 4 December.
Why Blockbuster Stories Make Great Group Experiences
Everyone already knows the world and the characters, so the excitement starts before anyone turns up. That’s what makes an immersive movie experience such a hit. You’re inside the story, moving and reacting alongside your group. With Jumanji: Open World landing in cinemas this Christmas, there’s no better excuse to turn a favourite franchise into something you do together.
1. Zero Latency VR: Live the Story
AtZero Latency VR, your group becomes the cast. Up to 8 players share a tennis-court-sized arena and play out the story together, reacting to what happens around them in real time. Friends who are not playing can follow the live view and the leaderboard.
Jumanji VR arrives at every venue on 4 December with a brand new Jumanji story: you explore unpredictable worlds, face high-stakes challenges and solve them as a team. It’s hand-tracked, so you reach, grab and push with your own hands.Far Cry VR andSpace Marine VR bring other much-loved worlds into the arena.
Compare everyVR experience before you choose.
Check theage and height requirements for your venue before booking.
Book your session online once the group has a day.
2. Backyard Cinema Night
A backyard cinema is the easiest movie themed party to pull off. Hang a white sheet, borrow a projector and let guests bring a cushion or beanbag. Pick a film the whole group knows, so the quoting starts before the opening credits.
Party checklist:
Test the projector and sound before guests arrive.
Serve popcorn in paper cones.
Have a backup plan for rain.
3. Red Carpet Costume Premiere
Turn a movie themed birthday party into a red carpet night: guests arrive as their favourite character and walk a runway before the screening. Hand out awards like Best Costume and Most Convincing Villain. It works for kids, adults and mixed groups.
Party checklist:
Set a simple dress code, such as one franchise or any film.
Hang a backdrop for photos.
Give out paper trophies.
4. Movie Trivia Showdown
Quote-and-trivia nights suit friend groups and colleagues who know a franchise inside out. Split into teams, run quick rounds on quotes, soundtracks and behind-the-scenes facts, and keep score on a whiteboard.
Party checklist:
Write questions in easy, medium and hard.
Add a round on famous film music.
Break ties with a final quote challenge.
5. Jumanji Jungle Party
Jumanji party ideas are easy to build at home: turn the living room into a jungle with leaves and dice, then set challenges for the group to solve together. Finish with a Jumanji VR session at Zero Latency VR from 4 December.
Party checklist:
Hide clues around the house for a jungle scavenger hunt.
Use oversized dice for a roll-and-do challenge.
Give every guest an explorer role.
6. Themed Movie Marathon Menu
A movie marathon becomes one of the most memorable movie themed activities when the menu matches the films. Serve a dish or snack from each one and let the group vote on the best.
Party checklist:
Pick two or three films from one franchise.
Print a menu with a snack for each film.
Plan breaks between films.
7. Big-Screen Cinema Outing
For a bigger night out, book a cinema session on a premium or large-format screen and add a meal beforehand. It suits birthdays and family days out where the story is the main event.
Party checklist:
Book seats together, especially for large groups.
Check session times and age ratings.
Arrive early for tickets and snacks.
